Brain Bout is a real-time trivia game. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Brain Bout app and this website, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have — including how to delete your account.

In this policy, "Brain Bout," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the makers of the Brain Bout app. "You" refers to the person using the app or website.

1Who this policy is for

Brain Bout is intended for people aged 13 and older. The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. See Children's privacy below.

2What we collect and why

We only collect what we need to run the game, keep it fair, and let you compete. The table below lists each type of data, why we collect it, and where it lives.

We do not currently serve ads or use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not sell your personal information. If we ever introduce advertising, players aged 13-17 are automatically excluded from it.

Information collected automatically

To keep matches in sync and the service secure, our servers process basic technical data such as your IP address and connection details when you play a live match or make a request. This is used for real-time gameplay, abuse prevention, and debugging, and is not used to build advertising profiles.

3Payments

Brain Bout does not currently offer paid subscriptions or in-app purchases, and we do not collect or store payment card details. If we introduce payments in the future, we will update this policy and describe how that data is handled.

4How we use your information

• Run real-time trivia matches and keep scores in sync.
• Match you with opponents at a fair skill level and maintain leaderboards.
• Operate chat and discussion boards and moderate for safety.
• Send account and gameplay notifications you have opted into.
• Prevent cheating, abuse, and fraud, and keep the service secure.
• Respond to your support requests and improve the app.

5Subprocessors we share data with

We rely on a small set of trusted service providers ("subprocessors") to operate Brain Bout. They only process your data to provide services to us, under their own security and privacy commitments.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our players or the public.

6How long we keep it

We keep your account information and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal data as described in Account & Data Deletion. We may retain limited records where we are legally required to, or as needed to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule.

7User content you post

Messages you post in party chat and on category discussion boards are visible to other players. Please do not share sensitive personal information there. We may store and moderate this content to enforce our Community Guidelines. Removing content or your account may not immediately erase copies that other users have already seen or saved.

8Your rights and choices

You have control over your information:

• Access & correction — view and edit your profile and display name in the app, or ask us for a copy of your data.
• Deletion — delete your account and associated personal data at any time. See Account & Data Deletion for the in-app steps and the web request path.
• Notifications — turn push notifications on or off in your device settings.
• Waitlist — ask us to remove your email from the marketing waitlist at any time.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA (for example, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to data portability). To exercise any right, email privacy@brainbout.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

9Children's privacy & teen protections

Brain Bout is for players aged 13 and older. At sign-up we ask for your date of birth: anyone who enters an age under 13 is blocked from creating an account on that device and can't retry with a different date. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact privacy@brainbout.app and we will delete it.

Players aged 13-17. We apply extra protections automatically: no advertising; push notifications are silenced between 9pm and 7am your local time; you play under a gamertag, and your real name and any location more specific than country are never shown publicly; there is no algorithmic feed or pressure engineered to keep you playing; and the public discussion/chat features are off by default — they can only be turned on through a toggle that reminds parents and guardians to ensure the teen understands online safety.

10Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and hashed password storage through our authentication provider. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident.

11International data transfers

Our subprocessors may process and store data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Brain Bout grows. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
